Watonga Self
Storage was originally called Jane’s Storage. It was on “A” Street
by IGA. Jane started it in the 70’s. George Moore bought it in the
90’s and expanded it by converting the old Star Motel on Russworm.
First, the units were turned into apartments and then into storage
units. He converted the truck stop west of town to units and also
built new ones on that site.
Terry and Kaye
McGuire bought the units from George Moore in April 2005. Terry
went to school at Greenfield where he graduated in 1976. Before
moving to Watonga, Terry worked in musical programs at church while
selling real estate in California. His singing talents have pleased
Watonga crowds many times! Kaye worked as an R.N. before Watonga.
If you ask Kaye where she is from, you will get a question. “What
year?” But she mainly claims Houston and Nashville.
Besides all the
outside units, Watonga Self Storage has indoor storage units
available at their office location at 204 W. Main.
Terry and Kaye
have a few more stories to tell about the hurricane in August of ‘07
than most of us. Their house blew away and they spent a few hours
in a water-filled ditch before being found; but Terry still
remembers how bizarre it looked when they got back to town and drove
down Oddfellow Street and saw “A Building” with its contents stacked
up perfectly, even though the building was gone.
