A trip
to Eley
Eggar’s
Service
Center
begins
with a
handshake
and a
smile
and ends
with a
job
well-done
and
genuine
appreciation
for my
business
which I
in turn
appreciate.
In
between
I get
personal
service
from
Eley in
a garage
that
looks
more
like a
showroom
because
it is
always
so clean
and
tidy. I
always
find an
‘air of
friendliness’
and a
‘positive
attitude’
that
keeps me
coming
back.
Let me
tell you
about
Eley.
He moved
to
Watonga
when he
was 6
six
years
old when
his
father
bought a
grocery
store on
Noble
Avenue.
Eley
grew up
working
in the
store;
he
remembers
shucking
onions,
bagging
potatoes
and ice
in the
back of
the
store as
a
youngster.
As he
grew up,
he took
on
bigger
jobs
because
his
father
was a
firm
believer
in
‘work’.
He was
managing
the
store by
the time
he was
eighteen.
While he
worked
at the
store,
he drove
a Borden
milk
route
some,
and in
1980,
when he
was 20,
Eley
bought a
Texaco
gas
station
where
the
Shell
station
is now.
His
brother
David
worked
for him
at this
time and
they
pumped
gas,
washed
cars,
fixed
tires;
all the
time
learning
and
expanding
their
knowledge
of how
to take
care of
their
customer’s
vehicles.
After
about 5
years,
after
David
had
moved
on, Eley
moved
his
business
west of
town and
ran his
business
out of a
truck
stop
that
Charlie
and
Barbara
Keenan
owned.
At this
time he
sold
farm
fuel,
(he had
a couple
of
bob-tail
gas
trucks
for
delivery),
and he
did tire
alignments;
the
entire
time
keeping
updated
with the
mechanics
of cars
and
trucks.
After a
few bad
winters
at this
location
when the
snow was
as high
as the
gas pump
handle,
Eley
moved to
the
building
that
sits
just
west of
the
Phillips
66. He
remodeled
this
building
and it
was at
this
location
that he
added
the feed
line.
In 2004,
he moved
west
just a
block or
two to
his
present
location
where he
is 1 of
only 13
‘direct
Bridgestone
Firestone
dealers’
in the
state.
He keeps
950
Bridgestone,
Firestone,
and
Dayton
tires in
stock.
There
are 2
full-time
and 2
part-time
mechanics
working
with
Eley
(his son
Ethan,
17,
works
part-time
– Ethan
says
that he
plans to
retire
his dad
some
day)
Eley
believes
in
keeping
quality
brands
with his
full-line
automotive
shop.
He knows
that a
job done
right
with
good
parts
keeps
the
customers
happy.
Specialty
tools,
an
injection
flushing
machine,
transmission
flushing,
brake
lathes,
tire
balancer,
four
tire
machines,
a 4
wheel
alignment
machine,
a/c
recycle
machine,
diagnostic
computer
for
import/export;
all
these
things
are part
of the
inventory
at
Eley’s
Service
Center
so that
the
mechanics
can take
care of
new
vehicles
as well
as older
models.
Eley has
50 tons
of feed
in
stock;
Nutrina
and
Cross
Feed for
livestock
and
horses
and
Diamond
Pet Food
for dogs
and
cats.
Eley
feels
fortunate
to be
apart of
Watonga.
He
believes
in
taking
care of
his
customers
in the
very
best way
he can.
Watonga
Main
Street,
Inc.
thanks
Eley’s
Service
Center
for
believing
in
Watonga. |
